Il 5 febbraio la Chiesa ricorda S. Agata. E’ una delle martiri che la Sicilia ha dato al mondo cristiano dei primi secoli, insieme a Lucia, Rosalia, Alfio, Delfo, Cirino, tutti giovanissimi che hanno scelto il martirio – in forma anche molto cruenta - piuttosto che recedere dalla loro fede cristiana.
La città di Catania festeggia la sua patrona Agata con una festa imponente che si snoda nell’arco di diverse giornate e con numerose manifestazioni, alcune di grande suggestione. Centinaia di migliaia di persone si riversano nella città per partecipare alle numerose processioni in onore della Santa. Non c’è doubt that many aspects of the party now have nothing Christian.
